If you’re using an ecobee smart thermostat, you may already have received a notification asking you to set up a new feature called eco+. In today’s post, heating and air conditioning repair company Allison Air Conditioning shares a quick guide on what eco+ is and the benefits of using it.
What is eco+?
eco+ is a suite of smart features intended to help ecobee smart thermostat users save on energy. The manufacturer claims that eco+ will use data such as your household’s schedule, relative indoor humidity levels and local energy demand to improve the household’s energy efficiency while enhancing comfort. eco+ is compatible with ecobee3, ecobee3 lite, ecobee4 and ecobee SmartThermostat with voice control.
How to Set Up eco+
Your compatible ecobee smart thermostat will need to have the latest firmware to support eco+, which should be automatically downloaded by its system. When done, you’ll receive a notification that it’s ready to set up. All you need to do is follow the prompts on your app. You’ll be asked to provide information about your energy usage like your time-of-use rates. When done, your ecobee thermostat will begin optimizing your HVAC system. If you haven’t received a notification, you may contact ecobee customer support to have them “push” the update to your device.
Why Should You Use eco+?
ecobee claims that enabling eco+ will improve indoor comfort and maximize your energy savings through the following aspects:
- Smart use of energy. If your area has time-of-use electricity rates, eco+ will precool or preheat your home when electricity prices are low. An advanced tracking system will take home energy use snapshots that track your energy usage and how it compares with other ecobee users. You can get monthly energy reports with helpful tips.
- Carbon footprint reduction. HVAC systems account for over half of an average home’s annual energy consumption. Most of the energy from the grid is still produced using fossil fuels. The more energy you save, the smaller your home’s carbon footprint will be. Lower energy consumption will also help reduce the strain on your local energy grid and lower the risk of blackouts and energy shortages.
